We use only vegetable-tanned leather in all our products. This means the tanning and processing of the leather hide has been done with natural elements such as tannins, herbs, and other botanicals. This ensures safety for users and the environment in the production and use of the leather.
Additionally, we purchase and use scraps and cuts offs as much as possible, cutting down on waste.
We also use only plant-based dyes that are safe for the environment. No harmful ingredients, such as tin or chrome, are used in the extractions. See below for more information on the dye process.

Because every item is hand-carved and hand-painted on an organic material (leather), each piece is going to retain a wholly unique quality.
Color variances may occur; we strive for symmetry, but embrace the individuality that exists in our natural world.

Every pattern is created uniquely by hand. Some patterns are cut with a specialized machine, but many are cut by myself. All carving and dyeing is done by hand.

We want to be responsible stewards of our customers and our environment. Because of this, we have shifted away from commercial inks and dyes, and into botanical-based colorants.
The plants used are carefully chosen for their color-fastness and light-fastness.
Plant matter is sustainably obtained through clippings and discards, or carefully trimmed from a healthy plant.
Using traditional methods of slow heat extraction, only with water and no harmful solvents, the colors are gently extracted over a period of 1-3 days.
The dye liquid is then modified in a variety of ways, such as sodium bicarbonate or iron sulfate (suitable for plants and humans). Fabrics are then gently laundered in a scent-free, homemade soap, and air-dried.
Each piece is carefully treated and conditioned according to the unique structure of the material.

Leather
Every leather piece has been sealed with a beeswax and/or olive oil mixture to protect against fading and cracking.
To further ensure the longevity of your product, keep them out of excessive moisture. You may also wish to apply a layer of oil every 3-4 months, using a soft cotton cloth.
We encourage you to try making your own protective oil, using a 1:3 ratio of beeswax to tallow. A simple block of beeswax gently rubbed on the item also does the trick.
Fabrics
We recommend using a gentle, plant-based laundry detergent when washing your items, to preserve their longevity.
Sun-drying will also help preserve the colorants.

We also ship to other countries at a flat rate of $15 an order.
We usually ship via USPS first-class or priority mail.If you need to make arrangements for special shipping, please contact us and we will see what we can do.

We accept payments through Squarespace payment, PayPal or Venmo. If you have another way you’d like to pay, please contact us to see if we can accommodate your needs. If you need to cancel or change an order, please do so as soon as possible. If we have already started a made-to-order item for you, you will not be able to cancel.

It is important to us that we provide metals safe and hypoallergenic for most ears. All are nickel-free and from high-quality manufacturers.
We offer: stainless steel, gold-finished stainless steel, and niobium.
Niobium is a lightweight, naturally occurring metal that has become a popular choice for highly sensitive ears. It is soft gray and resembles stainless steel in appearance. Those who have struggled to wear stainless steel, gold, or silver may find niobium to be a more comfortable alternative.

We gladly accept exchanges for orders damaged in shipment.
Contact us within: 7 days of delivery
Ship items back within: 14 days of delivery
All sales are final. We don't accept returns or cancellations. No returns unless damage occurred during shipping, in which case you can send back the item for fixing or exchange.
Please note- Contact us within 7 days, including photos of the damage. (We always insure all of our items for shipping too).
Because of the amount of time and customization of every piece, HanMade Crafts has a no return and no refund policy; but please contact us at hanmadecrafts@protonmail.com if you have any problems with your order.
